Psychologist in New York, NY
At the Intersection of Body and Mind
Bridging the gap between physical and emotional health.
About Psychologist, Dr. Lisa Rosenzweig
You feel isolated by the challenges you face with your health, especially if your experiences are dismissed or misunderstood. Too often, people, especially women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals, are given the message that “it’s all in your head,” even when there’s a clear medical diagnosis.
It’s left you feeling unseen and unheard by medical providers, mental health clinicians, family, and friends. Maybe you’ve even experienced medical gaslighting, the experience of being doubted, disbelieved, minimized, pathologized, or misdiagnosed, even in the face of real suffering. Or you may have a clear diagnosis and still feel lost without support for the full picture of what you're going through.
Often, it’s not about bad intentions, but about systems that don’t fully integrate physical and emotional care, leaving you caught between the worlds of medicine and mental health, neither of which fully sees your whole experience.
A psychologist in New York who listens, cares, and gets it
I'm Dr. Lisa Rosenzweig, a licensed clinical psychologist based in New York City. I understand how painful and disorienting it can be to navigate illness or pain, especially if you’re feeling dismissed or misunderstood. While your experience is uniquely yours, I’ve worked with so many people facing similar challenges, and I’ve seen how deeply they can affect your sense of self, safety, sanity, and support.
Bridging the gap between physical and emotional health
Illness is never just about the body, and never just about the mind. Our experiences of illness are shaped by our history and identities, filtered through emotion and meaning, and influenced by how we care for ourselves each day. When body and mind feel disconnected, it can be hard to know where to turn. My work is about helping you reconnect these parts of your experience in a way that honors both your medical and emotional realities.
With advanced training and over a decade of experience collaborating with doctors and care teams—in settings ranging from inpatient hospital units and outpatient clinics to pain management and hospice—I specialize in the psychological aspects of illness, pain, and complex medical conditions. I help people make sense of what they’re going through, address both emotional and practical concerns, and move forward with greater clarity and self-compassion.
How I Can Help With Therapy In New York
In our work together, we’ll explore how your physical health and emotional life affect one another, and how you can care for both. My approach is integrative and grounded in the belief that health and healing look different for everyone. Whether you’re seeking support for a specific medical challenge, looking to better manage stress and symptoms, or wanting to understand yourself and your health more deeply, our work will be collaborative and flexible, guided by what feels most meaningful and helpful to you in the moment.
What To Expect When You Come See Me
I work from a pragmatic, holistic, integrative perspective, incorporating dynamic, cognitive, behavioral, relational, existential, and mindfulness-based perspectives depending on your needs. This may sound like a lot of jargon (and it is!), but it essentially comes down to the idea that I tailor my approach to what you need. Therapy may be short-term or longer-term. You may want to come for just a few sessions to learn some effective stress-management or symptom-management techniques or get support and a sense of greater clarity over time or through a challenging period. At our first meeting, we'll discuss what you have in mind and how we can work together to meet your goals.
When you first reach out to me, we’ll arrange a free 20-minute phone consultation to get a sense of what you’re looking for, to discuss fees and insurance, and consider together if working with me might be a good fit. An initial meeting is 60-90 minutes long and subsequent therapy sessions are typically 60 minutes weekly.
I currently offer therapy sessions both virtually through a secure video platform and in person one day a week at my office in Lower Manhattan. You're welcome to choose the format that feels most comfortable and accessible for you.
